Do Blondes really have more fun??

The age old question continues to ruffle feathers and still, in 2008, people are debating the issue.

Personally I feel that being blonde has alot to do with a woman's sexuality. Marilyn Monroe picked this hair color for this reason and from the day she became famous she oozed confidence and sexuality. Men however, choose the exact opposite as Elvis Presley chose blue-black to exaggerate his masculinity and also John Travolta landed the lead role in Grease.

Cinderella is blonde. The ugly stepsisters and the stepmother are, you guessed it... dark or red haired. Even Barbie has platinum hair and blue eyes!!! Need i say more?

My DKIT Experience

I must admit I have had some really good times and some really bad times here at DKIT. I’m not going to start onto a mad rant about bad service and what not because, at the end of the day, I have been here for 5 years and have received amazing support from the staff at DKIT, for which I will be forever indebted to them. Although, I’m still going to scream for joy when I finish my exams!

Web Standards

Up until this year I can safely say that I had never heard of web standards and would never really have given it a second thought.
The more I find out about it, the more I begin to acknowledge that we cannot be ignorant to others disabilities and inaccessibility’s.
It would be interesting to see the transformation of web standards into web laws. Here’s hoping!

Search Engine Optimisation

SEO is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a website from search engines. It has been in use since the early 90's and perhaps today the most well known search engine is

In a sense it allows an organisation to take primary position in cyberspace and can be seen as a competitive advantage for those who market a lot on the web.

Regina Spektor

Last summer I discovered a passion for a new musical artist .... Regina Spektor. She is not an artist too commonly known. I first heard her music on the Vodafone advert on TV which played Hotel Song. It was such a catchy song that I googled it to find out who sung the song and I then continued to find her music on i tunes.

She is a russian born songwriter and pianist and has released several albums to date. Listen to some of her music at youtube such as the song Fidelity. Enjoy!

Mobile Computing

With the move on technology in this day and age, it's surprising to see that not many hospitality orgainsations have really integrated it into their work processes. Some establishements will use hand held devices for food ordering in retaurants but this seems to be as far as it goes.

Last summer I worled in an Irish bar in Belgium which had a sophisticated computing system for ordering of food and drinks. Although the 'cafe style' culture there probably coheses well with this system; a similar system could potentially be integrated here in Ireland.

The computing system in the pub allowed the waitress to take a food and drinks order, go to the touch screen to place the order, the drinks order would print out in the bar printer and the food order would print out in the kitchen. There was also a chargeable hand held mobile device that was very convenient for use on the terrace on a busy day.

Personally I feel mobile devices could make much more of an impact in the way the service is delivered, by potentially speeding up the process and simplifying the job for front line hospitality staff.

Virtual Communities

So guess what - I'm writing about virtual communities! Who would have thought? Well a few years ago I would have said they were only for the modern geek (sorry if I offend any one) but they are becoming more popular these day. So perhaps it's a good idea to investgate them a bit more.

I suppose I would be more familair with the social networking sites, predominantly Bebo! Of course I have heard of Facebook, WAYN and also Friendster but I found Bebo more appealing with its applications, layout and also because most of my friend are be on it too. The main resaon I am on Bebo is to stay in touch with those dearly beloved that I do not see from day to day!

Here is a link to my bebo page - drop me a comment if you wish!

Brand communities are meeting points for people with similar interests, culture and sometimes
demographic factors. I stumbled across a great online community recently - Lego! click on the link here and let all your childhood memories come flooding back!

Pity this wasn't on the go when i was in the midst of building my princess castle!

Breaking News!! Doh!

Have you ever been made to feel so blonde???

Well I must admit there has been the odd occasion in my life where I have felt a bit similar to Homer Simpson or the like. About two years ago I was living in Dublin with a few girls from college completing my internship.

For some strange reason I had managed to land myself a cushy number so to speak; a 9 to 5 job. My flat mate Amy also had a similar job with similar hours. So as routine was routine, on a sunday evening I would arrive back in the big smoke around 7.30pm and Amy around 8.30pm.

To be honest at the time I hardly seen any television as we were more of the sociable type, heading out for a quiet meal or drink, as 20 year olds do! On this occasion both of us decided to watch the television and see if there might have been a chick flick on.

Whilst flicking from channel to channel I stumbled across RTE 1 - Breaking News! As is obvious it caught our attention and we continued to watch in horror! I let out a gasp and Amy let out a yelp. I could not believe what was before my eyes. A full scale alert was being broad cast on national TV to warn the nation of an explosion of some description at Sellafield. With "breaking news" flashing on the screen before us and an RTE news reporter outside the boundaries, but within full view of the plant itself, what else were we to do but panic! There was plooms of black smoke billowing out of the huge chimneys and I sensed a tone of fear in the reporters voice.

I immediately called home to alert my family in case they were not aware of the situation an my father tried convincing me that it was just a documentary to portray what would happen if there was leak or explosion. But no, I was having none of it. Amy closed all the windows in the apartment and got into a state of panic.

It all seemed too surreal to be true. I couldn't understand why the road out side the apartment seemed to be as always, busy with traffic and pedestrians, so I called home again. My mother came on the phone to try and calm me down and it was only then I realised what a fool I had been as I watched the credits roll up on the screen! Doh!

Summer 2008

I really cant wait for this summer to arrive and for my exams to be over. The plan is to get a job in Florida; perhaps with the Marriott hotel group. What a savage summer that will be and I might even stay for up to one year.

I can just image myself getting up on my days off work, going down to the beach, sunning myself (well to some extent!), maybe heading into the town shopping and also doing a bit of celeb spotting and then hitting the clubs that night (bopping until I drop!). I hope you're not too jealous but here is a picture just in case!

Dolphins

Dolphins are marine mammals that are closely related to whales and porpoises. There are almost forty species of dolphin. They vary in size from 4 ft and 30 ft.

They are found worldwide, mostly in the shallower seas of the continental shelves, and are carnivores, mostly eating fish and squid.

Dolphins evolved about ten million years ago and are considered to be amongst the most intelligent of animals.Their often friendly appearance and seemingly playful attitude have made them popular human culture.

Dolphins have also been known to seemingly protect swimmers from sharks by swimming circles around them.
Hey check out this cool video of a dolphin blowing bubbbles!!!
